Bookham Tennis Mix it Up American Style

Bookham Tennis Mix it Up American Style

It took the final matches to decide the winners of this year’s Bookham Tennis Club American tournament.

Chris Browning overtook Jeremy Thomas in the final match of the day to take the men’s title, while Alison Gatford just piped Lesley Browning to take the Ladies’ crown: so a great performance by the Brownings!

Eight ladies and eight men took part in the day long mixed doubles competition, constantly changing partners so that almost everyone plays both with and against every other player. This works like a handicap and helps even out players of different calibre. It certainly requires players to form an instant understanding with their new partners for each match.

The uncertainty of the result was further increased by the number of new players taking part this year, following the club’s recruitment campaign. Keith Gatford, the New Member Contact announced that almost 20 new families had joined the club in 2014 to date.

Bookham Tennis Club is located just off the Dorking Road, behind SPACE, and offers fun tennis for all abilities at great value. The six month membership fee for those wishing to join in September is now only £90 for a full family membership, £57 for Adults, £18 for Intermediates and Juniors and only £9 for Minis. New coaching sessions have also begun for all age groups.
